Dasara is one of the important festivals of Hindus. There are many stories to say why we celebrate Dasara.
The people believe in different stories, one of them goes like this: ‘Once people were teased and troubled by a demon named Mahishasura. He also killed the people, even gods and sages. The people prayed to goddess Durga. She fought with Mahishasura in the battle and killed him. This festival was celebrated as the mark of victory of mother goddess Durga over Mahishasura. This shows the victory of good against evil.’
There is another important story in Mahabharatha. It is said that Arjuna of the Pandavas took his weapons from bulrush tree on Aswayujasudda
Dasami and he worshipped them to fight Kauravas. Later he got victory in the battle of Uttara Gograhana.
In some regions some people greet their friends, relatives, elders with bulrush leaves. On these festival days people wake up early in the morning. They bathe and wear new clothes, decorate their houses beautifully with mango leaves and flowers. They prepare delicious feasts. Some people arrange exhibition of dolls in their houses and invite their friends and relatives and some people worship their weapons, tools, and machines.
Dasara can be celebrated for 10 days. Day eight of the festival is called Durgastami, The ninth day is called Maharnavami. The tenth day is called Vijaya Dasami. It usually comes in the month of October. But this year all Indians celebrated Dasara in September.
In S.E.D.S we celebrated this festival on 28th. In the evening of 27th from 5.00 to 11.00 clock we tied Mari gold flowers (40 kg). We ate dinner at 7.30 to 8.00 clock. We didn’t feel boring because we listened to songs on Iris missy’s lap top.
In the morning we woke up early in the morning. We cleaned the farm. After cleaning the farm we got ready. The staff members, some guests, and Rajen Sir and Manil Madam, we all went to the ground where they putted the Jeeps. After Puja, children all went for a ride in the school bus. The staff members went in jeeps and some on their own bikes. We enjoyed it very much. After the ride we had breakfast. Then we (cook and the girls) made sweets for lunch. After lunch we all played. That was a nice day!
